D J Howie

howieHoward Vassell,  “Howie” was born in St. Catherine Jamaica to Harold and Eucivia Vassell. During his youthful years his parents owned and operated a Store and Dance Hall called Dreamland so he was exposed to music at an early age. In the late 1940’s Harold and other talented musicians formed the first Town band providing the Town weekend entertainment and further exposing the young Howie to music. The band however was shortlived and they transitioned to a P. A. System and eventually to a full blown Sound System. From the 1950’s to the 1970’s Howie, his brother and his father bought and played all genres of music starting with 78 rpm Rhythm and Blues, Mento, Ska, Rocksteady, Reggae and Rockers. It was through all this that Howie developed his love of music.

He migrated to the USA where his love and passion for music intensified leading him to develop an appreciation for other genres of music including Soul and Jazz.

Howie also spends time volunteering his time to community service, his Church and his friends and family. He states that his purposes in life is serving God and being attentive to his family. Howie’s show airs from Central Florida every Friday from 2 to 5 pm.
